The roots of sister act The Darins began in the family statio0n wagon, where the girls would sing songs on the way to church every Sunday. And while, for most of us, our childhood memories of cruising in the family wagon have faded in the mists of time, those memories would later inspire Krista, Stacy, Rachelle and Heather to expand their sisterly band into one which will reach out beyond their original four-door "studio," with the release of their self-titled debut album.
Born and raised in Buena Park, CA, the four girls grew up exposed to all kinds of music. "Because of mom teaching music in the home," Heather remembers, "we heard a lot of show tunes and classical music. But we were drawn to the sounds of Motown and strong vocal artists like Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey." At the same time, as their faith grew, they were encouraged and inspired by the work of BeBe and CeCe Winans, Steven Curtis Chapman, Take 6, First Call, and Crystal Lewis.
Working with producers John and Dino Elefante, The Darins' self-titled debut is a blend of their tight, sibling harmonies with infectious pop music that has an underlying urban beat, reminiscent of their childhood favorites. With the songs on their debut--penned by such notable songwriters as Regie
Hamm, Chris Eaton, Jim Cooper and Chris Omartian--The Darins have been able to blend the music they love with lyrics that speak boldly of their faith.
After the four Darins sisters came together in 1995 to sing a tribute to their high school music director, they continued performing around the Southern California area.
In December 1996, the music minister at their church introduced them to producer Dino Elefante, Vice President of A&R at Pamplin Music. That meeting led to a showcase for the girls. Following the performance, Dino encouraged the sisters to seek the Lord about a ministry in Christian music. "We took three months to pray about it," Stacy says. "The Lord laid it on each of our hearts to use the gifts He has given us to serve Him. We want our music to be an encouragement and give hope to a generation that is lost and dying. To waste our talent on anything less would be a disservice to Him.
Mission Statement
We want to become Godly women of compassion, strength, dignity, selflessness, and great faith. We want to use our talents as a platform to share the love of Jesus to those that don't know Him, and to reinforce the faith of believers. In our families, we want to build healthy, God-centered relationships in which we support, encourage and pray for each other to keep the Lord and His will at the forefront of our lives. With our friends, we want to communicate our love for Christ and how He is working in our lives. We want to represent Jesus and be an example to our "unsaved" friends, for we may be the only Bible they ever study. In the world, our desire is to glorify God through music, share our faith with others through our actions, and give unconditionally to those in need.
