Bryan's dad, Dan Duncan is a preacher and consequently Bryan grew up in the church. The beginning of his musical career can be traced back to when he was sixteen. A woman from church gave him a guitar that had belonged to her son, who had committed suicide. Bryan had recently made a commitment to Christ and felt that his future lay in songwriting. He wrote songs all through high school. During that time Sly and the Family Stone was his favorite band, and you can still hear the influence of their particular brand of funk in his music today.
In his first year at a Christian college in Florida, Bryan formed a folk-rock band called Second Timothy. They played in parks, churches and at school. Eventually, though, Bryan was kicked out of college for not following the rules. (The words "long hair" should give you a clue.) Having no particular reason for staying at home, he took his guitar west to California. For about a year and a half, during the beginning of the "Jesus Movement," he performed as a solo artist at Calvary Chapel, among other places.
Two brothers named Kevin and Rick Thomson saw him there and approached him about playing together. When they got together to jam, Bryan found that together they sounded better than he did alone, and Sweet Comfort Band emerged out of that alliance. Shortly after that, the fourth member, Randy Thomas, joined the band. Bryan was nineteen years old.
Sweet Comfort Band's first album came out in 1977, and much of the money needed to produce it was loaned to the band by a girl named Jodi, whom Bryan married around 1978. Sweet Comfort Band lasted about 10 years, and then the members went in separate directions. Shortly after, in 1985, Bryan released his first solo album, "Have Yourself Committed."
The rest, as they say, is history. Bryan has been on a steady climb up ever since. He has had several number one hits over the years including "Traces of Heaven," "Things are Gonna Change," "United We Stand" and "Don't Look Away" from the Slow Revival album; "Love Takes Time," "You Don't Leave Me Lonely," "Into My Heart," "When It Comes to Love" and "I'll Not Forget You" from the Mercy album; and "A Heart Like Mine" from the various artists compilation My Utmost for His Highest. He's released twelve solo albums, appeared on several compilation projects, and released three solo video projects and one joint tour video. He has received four Dove Award nominations and one Dove Award, among other honors and awards.
His album "The Last Time I Was Here" features: Strollin' on the Water, Yes I Will, Once I've Arrived, The Last Time I was Here, Caribbean Dream, Glad Morning,The Preachin' is Easy, Sometimes in the Dark, This Love is What I Get, God Knows, I Still Love You-Simple as That.
His latest album is entitled "Love Takes Time (17 Classics)"
