Point of Grace

 Point of Grace picture
The music is crisp and clear, cutting through the clutter with rich harmonies, soaring melodies and breathtaking vocal virtuosity.

The message is front and center: a call to commitment, to living out our faith in the real world.

The ministry is reaching a generation looking for answers, direction and the courage to live out their convictions.

The response is phenomenal, one of the brightest success stories in recent musical history, with a record-breaking run of number one singles and sold out concerts from coast to coast.

The group, of course, is Point Of Grace.

The fact that Point Of Grace has become, in three short years, one of the most exciting, original and inspiring new arrivals in contemporary Christian music is a matter of record.

Lots of records. With their two Word releases, Point Of Grace and The Whole Truth, the quartet have accomplished the unprecedented feat of landing eleven consecutive number one radio hits, climbing steadily toward the million-selling plateau and earning a mantle full of Dove Awards -- including 1996's Group Of the Year -- in the process.

But the extraordinary impact that Point of Grace has made goes far beyond charts and numbers. The honesty, integrity and authenticity of these four young women has touched a common chord with audiences across the country and around the world. Simply put, Heather Floyd, Denise Jones, Terry Jones and Shelley Phillips are the real thing.

It's that outspoken quality, that genuine connection, that shines through the music, the message and the ministry of Point Of Grace, illuminating each note and every word of their powerful new Word Records release, Life, Love & Other Mysteries. A collection of eleven new tracks, Life, Love & Other Mysteries, is music that gets to the heart of the matter...about matters of the heart.

What's behind Point Of Grace's extraordinary appeal is a lifetime of making music that communicates the truth, and celebrates the triumph, of Jesus Christ. Formed in 1991, on the campus of the Arkansas college where they all met as music majors, Point Of Grace has gone from a do-it-yourself labor of love -- with the quartet handling everything from setting up their own equipment to booking their own shows -- to a certified multi-media sensation.

The group's high-profile that runs the gamut from a packed concert itinerary to television appearances on everything from CBS This Morning to ABC World News Tonight; from coverage in The New York Times, USA Today and The London Times to a brand new book, detailing their life stories and offering timely advice to their fans, published by Simon & Schuster and released in conjunction with Life, Love & Other Mysteries.

Yet, for all the attention and excitement surrounding Point Of Grace, their focus remains, first and foremost, on making music that touches lives. It's that dedication, making the most of the talents and opportunities they've been given, that has resulted in one of the most impressive track records of any group, in or outside the Christian music arena.

Since their debut 1994 single, "I'll Be Believing" shot to number one on radio airplay charts, Point Of Grace has continued to reach the top spot with every consecutive release since. Their first album, Point Of Grace, also yielded "One More Broken Heart," "Jesus Will Still Be There," "Faith, Hope & Love," "I Have No Doubt" and "No More Pain," while 1995's The Whole Truth garnered "The Great Divide," "Dying To Reach You," "Gather At The River," "God Is With Us" and "Love Like No Other."

Small wonder both Point Of Grace and The Whole Truth were Top Ten albums on both Contemporary Christian Music and Billboard Magazine listings, with The Whole Truth going on to top sales charts for thirteen straight weeks, earning a number one berth on Billboard's vaunted Heatseekers chart in the process. Additionally, such Point Of Grace videos as "Jesus Will Still Be There," "Gather At The River" and "Dying To Reach You," have been lodged in heavy rotation on a number of nationally broadcast video showcases.

It's a list of accomplishments capped by an extraordinary sweep of the 1996 Dove Awards, which included trophies for Pop Album of the Year, Pop Song Of The Year, Special Event Album Of The Year (for their contribution to the acclaimed My Utmost For His Highest), as well as the abovementioned Group Of The Year. Add to that their 1994 Dove award for New Artist Of The Year and it's easy to see why Point of Grace is pointing the way for the future of modern Christian music.

Yet, even while their musical message of God's truth and trust in Jesus has offered hope and inspiration to listeners young and old, the ministry of Point Of Grace extends beyond the concert stage and the recording studio. The quartet's timely, and tireless, work to promote abstinence, purity and saving sex for marriage, is one of the most important aspects of the platform they have built. It's a commitment that encompasses their support of Mercy Ministries of America, a non-profit, nationwide outreach to unwed mothers and troubled girls.

With such a crowded schedule, including upwards of 400 performances in 1994 and 1995, it would be well over a year before the group found time to return to the studio to begin work on a follow-up to The Whole Truth. But, after an exhaustive search for material that would reflect both their high musical standards and commitment to content, the foursome began work on Life, Love & Other Mysteries earlier this year in their home base of Nashville. On hand for the session were producers Michael Omartian, Phil Nash and Scott Williamson, the man behind the board of their first two albums.

The result is an album that takes the creative chemistry and front-and-center convictions of Point Of Grace to a whole new level. From the rousing refrain of the title track, to the welcoming warmth of "Circle Of Friends;" from the uplifting power of "Gone Are The Dark Days" and to the sheer exuberance of their rendition of the Earth, Wind & Fire classic "Singasong," Point Of Grace has pulled out the stops on Life, Love & Other Mysteries. Among the album's other standout tracks are included "Any Road, Any Cost," "Jesus Doesn't Care" (both co-written by the exciting new Word Records artist Scott Kippayne and "That's The Way It's Meant To Be," penned by Michael Omartian with Donna Summer's husband and writing partner Bruce Sudano.

Life, Love & Other Mysteries is the latest stop on a lifelong musical journey for four talented and tenacious young women. It's a journey that brings us all a little close to the life, and the love, they celebrate in song.
